
The program is accredited by the South Carolina Diabetes Initiative and The American Diabetes Association. Our expert staff consists of two certified diabetic registered nurses, registered dietitian and a primary registered nurse instructor. The Diabetes Center offers educational classes, cooking classes, grocery store tours, chair aerobics, support groups and one-to-one counseling. We also offer medical nutrition therapy for those who would like to improve their blood pressure and cholesterol levels through dietary efforts. Our staff is also available for assistance with The Good Shepherd Clinic. The Diabetes Center also offers a health enhancement program for children who are overweight or at risk of becoming overweight. We promote healthier lifestyles.
This class provides support to those faced with the challenges of diabetes. The classes are offered weekly on Monday mornings at 8:30 a.m. in the Diabetes Center Education Classroom. No appointment needed. FREE.
These classes are designed to increase basic diabetes self-management skills in areas such as blood glucose monitoring, healthy meal planning, exercise, foot care, insulin therapy, etc.
This class is designed to teach healthy food choices and meal planning. Improving your diet can lower your cholesterol and high blood pressure.
Tours provide hands-on practice reading food labels and making healthy food choices in a grocery store setting.
This class is designed as an aerobics class for participants who are less mobile. Classes are held at Senior Options every Thursday, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
