Before You Come to the Hospital

Before hospital admission, make sure to have your insurance card(s) and other information with you.

Insurance pre-certification

Most insurance companies require pre-certification, or approval of admission, before a scheduled hospital stay. It is our policy to contact your insurance company to verify benefits and to initiate our pre-certification requirements.

It is your responsibility to pre-certify your scheduled admission by contacting your insurance company before coming to the hospital. You can pre-certify emergency admissions by contacting your insurance company as soon as possible, usually within 24 hours.

What to bring

Upon hospital admission you should bring personal items, such as:

  • Toiletry articles
  • Bathrobe
  • Slippers
  • Nightgown or pajamas

If you forget any of these items, please contact your nurse for assistance.

What not to bring

Sophisticated electronic life-saving equipment is used daily throughout the hospital. To prevent interference with any of this equipment, any personal electrical devices must be approved. Because of the hazards posed by even a small personal radio, we ask that you leave electrical appliances at home. You may use battery-operated items.

Please do not bring the following:

  • Credit cards and cash
  • Other valuables, such as diamond rings and watches
